Pastor Brian Haller:

Following ordination in 1973 Pastor Haller served as chaplain at the Columbus State School for the Mentally Retarded (intellectually delayed).  Following graduate studies in developmental psychology at O.S.U. he was appointed Assistant to the Superintendent at Columbus and Assistant and Acting Superintendent of The Northwest Ohio Developmental Center in Toledo.  He is the author of Manual for Planning, Delivery and Review of Habilitation for the Mentally Retarded and A Brief History of the Care of the Mentally Retarded in Ohio.

He accepted the call to Faith Lutheran Church, Swanton, Ohio in 1980 where he served until retirement in 2011.  He continued his work with the intellectually delayed serving as board member and acting superintendent of the Fulton County Ohio Board of Developmental Disabilities and was active in many civic activities including chairing school levy campaigns, coordinating Swanton’s Meals on Wheels, Swanton’s Centennial Committee, and serving on the Board of Senior Citizens.  While president of the Swanton Rotary Club he supported the admission of women to Rotary and presided over the admission of the club’s first female members.

During his ministry in Swanton Pastor Haller was a strong advocate of ecumenism facilitating opening of a Vacation Bible School jointly operated by St. Richard Roman Catholic Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, and Faith Lutheran and in 2002 helped compose A Covenant Between St. Richard Roman Catholic Church and Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, a local expression of the covenant between the Northwestern Ohio Synod of the E.L.C.A. and Roman Catholic Diocese of Toledo.

Pastor Haller represented the Michigan District of the A.L.C. on the Board of Campus Ministry, served several terms as chair of the Resolutions Committee for the Synod Assembly, member of the Mission Partners Committee, member of the Annual Synod Appeal Committee, and Pastor-in-Residence at Valparaiso University.

Following retirement Pastor Haller has served as Interim Pastor at Grace Lutheran Church, Toledo; Trinity Lutheran Church, Malinta; Hosanna Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids; and currently part of an interim team at Trinity Lutheran Church, Delta.

Pastor and Mrs. Haller are a blended family of seven children and lots of grandchildren!  They enjoy time with family & friends, traveling and maintaining their home in Swanton where Mrs. Pastor enjoys flower and vegetable gardening and practicing for a spot on the L.P.G.A. while Pastor Haller pursues his latest “career” as a writer.

SAM Jeannine Grimm

Jeannine was authorized within the Northwestern Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for Ministry of the Word in 2001 and has joyfully served the Church as a worship leader and supply preacher since that time.  A BGSU graduate, she has been a school librarian and even worked as a bench jeweler while her children were in elementary school. She retired after 11 years as student services director and adjunct instructor at Winebrenner Theological Seminary, where she received a graduate degree in theological studies in 2005. She has not retired from loving to study the Word or to play with words and so she continues to be an ad hoc reader/researcher of religious dissertations and scholarly articles.

She has served the ELCA in a variety of positions: Synod Council member (Vice-President 2002-2006), Regional Archive Advisory Board, three-time voting member of Churchwide Assembly, and National Nominations Committee member (chair, 2011). She holds membership in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Haskins, Ohio where she chairs the Worship and Music Committee.

With husband, Rick, she relaxes by visiting their two sons/DILs and five grandchildren, beading Protestant rosaries, and chasing the sun in their RV.
